The month of October witnesses a grand celebration, a spectacular extravaganza on the roads of Osaka. The Midosuji Parade as it is popularly named is a grand procession that invites participation from millions of people from the island country itself and also of the visitors. During the parade the Midosuji Boulevard adorns itself in all the possible colors of the joyous carnival. The parade starts from Oe- Bride in front of the Osaka Hall and culminates at Namba. The Midosuji Parade was born in the year 1983 as a mark of celebration of the Osaka 21 st Century plan to promote the cultural side of Osaka worldwide. The parade has a main theme and a sub theme usually related with a global cause and changes every year. Features of Midosuji Parade in Osaka : • The parade proceeding down the Midosuji Street lined with gingko trees consists of all sorts of decorated and enormous floats. Floats are featured from other countries also. The Flower float from Mino city Hanamikoshi, the Samba float from Brazil, the lighted float from Toyohama was some of the prime attractions. • The floats are accompanied by music, baton twirlers, drum and fife bands, unicycle acrobats by little girls, Mikoshi shines being carried by young women, local festival groups of Japan and Japanese Folk Dance groups. Even the children's dressed in bright colored costumes look charming and put up their own performances. • Being an event of international proportions, the Midosuji Parade also welcomes participations from international groups and performing arts of other foreign countries. • The parade becomes a great platform for exchange of ideas and fostering good international relations with other countries. The autumn season procession attracts people from all over the world and makes it a grand event. How to Reach Midosuji Parade in Osaka : • By Air: The main airport is the Kansai International Airport. A bus and train service links the centre of the city and the main suburbs to the airport. • By Rail: A wide network of JR lines provides frequent train services along with the Osaka Municipal Subway system. To reach the parade front you have to get down at Yodoyabashi station, Hommachi station, Namba station or the Shinsaibashi Station, all located on the Subway Midosuji Line.
