The land of the great river rambling past the cliff, Osaka, is one of the municipal prefectures of Japan, situated on either banks of the Yodo River. With everything taking place at a fast pace, Osaka is bound to become the ideal metropolis of the Japanese Archipelago in every sense of the term. The first exponent of Christianity in the island was Father Gaspar Vilela who spread the word of St. Francis Xavier in 1559. The diocese of Osaka embraces the territory stretching from Lake Biwa and the enclosures of the royal provinces of Jetchidzen, Mino and Owari to the western coast of the Nippon Island. The Nippon Sei KO Kai or the Holy Catholic Church of Japan was initiated in the year 1859. As the first missionary from the Protestant Episcopal Church in the USA, the Church Missionary Society of England was invited to the place by the Venerable Archdeacon CF Warren in 1868. The church was also in the news or being the first of its kind as the first missionary of The Society of the Propagation of the Gospel to the Tokyo area. In the year 1887, the First General Synod of the Sei KO Kai group in the nation, was held in the Holy Trinity Church. The Holy Catholic Church of Japan was established with the formulation of the cacon law. The Nippon Sei KO Kai, Osaka, falls under the Diocese of Kyushu. In some Christian churches, the diocese is an administrative unit headed by a bishop. This is why it is referred to as a bishopric or an Episcopal see. The Nippon Sei KO Kai is the Anglican Christian Church of Japan. There are different names for the worldwide Anglican Communion, like the Church of England or the Episcopal Church in the United States. Since its inception in the 19 th century, the Nippon Sei KO Kai has spread throughout the territory of the country as a bridge between the Roman Catholic Church and other Protestant churches due to the fact that it embraces both Catholic as well as Protestant components. The church is organized into 11 dioceses, viz. Hokkaido, Touhoku, North Kantou, Tokyo, Yokohama, Chubu, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Kyushu and Okinawa. It is the sponsor of the Rikkyo University, St. Luke's College of Nursing and Momoyama Gakuin University as well as other educational institutions.
