Osaka Bay Area Organization was launched on 25 December, 1991 under the aegis of the National Land Agency, and the Ministries of Trade and Industry, Transport, and Construction. The mammoth Osaka Bay Area encompasses amusements parks, sprawling malls, one of the world's largest aquariums, one of the world's biggest Ferries wheels and universal studios Japan. Osaka Bay Area is arguably a major attraction amongst tourists. Features of Osaka Bay Area: - The main attraction of the Osaka Bay Area is Universal Studios Japan, second only to the Universal studios theme park in United States. Scenes from popular Hollywood films are on display at the park.
- Tempozan is another major attraction of the Osaka Bay Area which is home to one of the world's largest aquariums. The Tempozan also covers an art museum, a shopping plaza with a huge Ferris wheel.
- The Osaka Aquarium "Kaiyukan" shelters 30,000 maritime species.
- The Tempozan Marketplace embraces a wide array of shops and restaurants. Some fine rotating art exhibits are on display at the Suntory museum nearby. The building also has a 3D IMAX theater. An ascent to the Mount Tempazan, Japan's lowest peak is a memorable experience.
- The Sakishima Island or Nanko (South Port) near the Tempozan Harbor Village is an ideal base for catching amazing sights of the World Trade Center (WTC) Cosmo Tower, the tallest structure in Western Japan. It houses an observatory and several restaurants which provide spectacular views of Osaka and Akashi Straits Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world.
- Of late owing to shops and an international wholesale outlet center in the Asia-Pacific Trade Center (ATC) the Nanko area is a major attraction amongst tourists.
- The ATC and WTC are home to the latest business amenities.
- Several companies and offices indulging in importing goods and business facilities like Consumer Product End-User Research Institute and the Commerce Support Center are housed inside the ATC.
- The Observatory on the 55 th floor of the Cosmo tower offers an inimitable sightseeing experience.
- The Osaka Maritime Museum showcases the history of how the city of Osaka evolved into an important center of maritime trade. Osaka maritime Museum is located in a building with a dazzling glass dome. A 17 th century merchant ship is located in the center of the museum.
- Maishima “Sports Island” is an artificial island in Osaka Bay which offers utmost relaxation, leisure and recreation facilities. It is designed to play host to leisure and recreational activities or any international sporting event. The area houses the Maishima Arena, the Maishima Baseball Stadium, and all kinds of sports facilities, including baseball fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball, handball and badminton courts, gymnastics halls, martial arts dojo, and a special sports center for the disabled. Maishima has therefore earned the epithet Sports Island, a sports lover's paradise.
