About The Piga Piga
Piga Piga, Tokyo is situated in the Yebisu Building in Yebisu Minami (Shibuya-ku). It is one of those Tokyo bars where the party mood always reigns supreme. The music is strictly African, lively and peppy here and the crowd is young and very friendly. The spacious dance floor is the prime lure here and with the in-house band dishing out the choicest in terms of Afro beats, it is actually very hard to find anyone not jiggling and swaying.
Though inspired by the Dark Continent, there’s certainly nothing dark about the Piga Piga interiors. True to its colorful clientele and the even more colorful music, Piga Piga is decked up in bright colors at all times. There are faux leopard and zebra skins lining the walls to bring about a feeling of being in the African grasslands.
The menu herein matches the décor color for color. Piga Piga is one of the very few places in Tokyo and certainly a rare one amongst the bars in Japan, where you can have authentic African delicacies. In fact, the menu is as diverse as a crocodile dish jostling for space along with a local fare.
Like many other Tokyo nightlife spots, Piga Piga is also open on all days of the week except for Sundays, from six in the evening to 1am on Mondays through to Thursdays and till 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. The Happy Hour is from 6pm to 8:30pm whence all the drinks come for 500 yens.
Things To Do At The Piga Piga
Piga Piga has more on offer than just jiving away to the African music and tucking into the African goodies. The bar offers African dance workshops for those who wish to be well up on all things African. There are also live painting sessions wherein you can give vent to your colorful imagination on the walls of the bar. Piga Piga is certainly living up to the Tokyo pubs’ tradition of giving you all and yet leaving you yearning for more.
