About Milk
Milk is a small club with a homely atmosphere that makes it popular for the Daikanyama-Ebisu crowd. It has a capacity of 400, with no fixed off days.
The clientele is mostly young. An evening at the Milk, Japan and you will be treated to very loud hard rock music and alternative music. In fact, the platter here includes offbeat musical fare ranging from hardcore techno to Japanese punk and from Reggie to Hip-hop. Live bands are featured here every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 10:30p.m.
The entry charges are fairly steep here. So are the drinks. Alcohol starts from around 700 Yens and soft drinks starts from around 500 Yens. Milk rustles up concoctions of its own and you can savor some of these.
Milk is a legend of sorts amongst the various Japanese pubs, proclaiming itself to be the "World's Greatest Enjoy Space".
The Influence of Milk
The Ebisu area was once more famous for its designer shops (such as the Evisu jeans). Nightlife herein really got the makeover with the opening up of Milk in the mid 1990's.
There was once a time when Milk used to be the only nightclub in Ebisu and Daikanyama area. But now you have a glittering line-up made up of Unit that has come up in Daikanyama recently and features a high quality underground and very fashionable electro-oriented musical line up. A very popular night club in Japan, What the Dickens! expat bar is also situated in the same building as Milk.
About Nightlife In Japan
When it comes to night clubs and pubs in Japan, the Roppongi area is still the most favored haunt for the party animals. Roppongi has the biggest collection of nightclubs in Japan. However unlike Milk, which pulls more of a Japanese crowd, the Roppongi nightclubs try to attract the foreign tourists. So a visit to Milk will bring you face-to-face with a slice of the real Japan.
