Issey Miyake a Hiroshima born fashion designer brought a revolutionary change in the fashion scene not only in Asia but also Europe in 1970s. Above all, he is the first Asian designer to have become truly global, not only in renown but also in aesthetic. He tried new methods in pleating clothes and came up with garment pleating known as "Pleats Please" which became very famous and he became a known figure. Miyake turned over to design for men's and women's collections respectively. He opened the Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo in 1970. Influenced by both traditional Japanese and Western design, particularly the work of Vionnet, his stylized garments are often layered and loose, wrapped and tied around the body in a variety of geometric configurations.
The basic tenets for Issey Miyake for making clothes has always been the idea of creating a garment from 'one piece of cloth', and the exploration of the space between the human body and the cloth that covers it. His approach to design has always been to strike a consistent balance between tradition and innovation, handcrafts and new technology.
Like many fashion designers, Issey Miyake also has a line of perfumes. His line of fragrance includes, the light aquatic-floral L'eau d'Issey for women, L'eau d'Issey Pour Homme (for men) and L'eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme. Issey Miyake fragrances are produced by the Beauté Prestige International division of Shiseido. The perfumes are available in many designer stores across Tokyo, London, Paris and New York.
