The seven-storey "Kiddyland" sells toys, trinkets, accessories, games and mad inventions but you do not need an excuse to go in and buy yourself something plastic, silly and completely useless. In fact, it seems half the Japanese teenage population thoroughly recommends it! The merchandise is global, making it a great place to buy not only Doraemon and Sanrio products, but also anything from the Moomins to Spiderman. You can also check out the glass-encased blue gel "Antquariums", about the size of a large cigarette pack. Real ants eat their way through the gel, creating artistic tunnels and patterns until they've had enough of choking on all that and head upstairs plucking a tiny harp to join the harmonica-playing Marlboro ponies in the Shabbily Exploited Animals Place in the Sky. You can get on the train from Narita to Nippori, then take the Yamanote line from there all the way down to Harajuku. Get off, go out the Omote Sando exit, walk down that big tree-lined street, then walk down the right hand side. Going on up: As you work your way up through the building you will come across one floor devoted entirely to Barbie and other 12 inch dolls, Hello Kitty merchandise, stuffed toys, ovens, toasters, a floor of toys keeping in mind the boys etc. They also host in-store events where you can win some great prizes.
