The Sony building was opened in Tokyo's Ginza in 1966. It was established as an information center for Sony Group products and services which would open the doors for the guests to experience the starring wave of high technology. The Sony building has thus become a Ginza landmark since then and has shared that technology with millions of visitors.

The Sony Building was designed by Japanese architect Yoshinobu Ashihara. This building is an excellent example of early Japanese towers. This building is situated in Harumi Dori in Ginza. It was this place where the first towers were made. This building has a superb reflection of postmodern architecture.

How to Get There

You can go to Sony Building from a number of stations like Akabanebashi (Oedo line), Kamiyacho (Hibiya line), Onarimon (Mita line), Daimon (Asakusa & Oedo lines) or Hamamatsucho (JR/Tokyo Monorail) stations. So getting here is not difficult.

About the building

The Sony Building is a lovely place to enjoy the whole day. The building gets 5.6 million visitors annually to its showrooms, shops, restaurants and cafes. This also includes guests who come for dinner and those just meeting up with friends. The Sony Building's first-floor lobby is a common rendezvous spot among foreigners, especially on rainy days.

In addition to three basements that houses several showrooms for Cameras, TV's,
Computers, Walkman/VAIO, BMW Pulse Shop, and Play station. The sixth floor of the Sony Building is employed solely for Play Station. Here there are large screens where you can play the games you requested.

The Sony Building is dedicated wholly to demonstrating company products. Everything that they make like Televisions, walkman, computer, PDA, digital camera, video camera, professional TV cameras and switchers, robots, game consoles, etc., are exhibited in a winding "helix" of showrooms where all the equipment is for using. You can examine all their a la mode video cameras, give a listen to car stereos, be baffled at a showcasing of high-definition television systems and have a little hands-on fun with the company's newest computer wonders. The showroom is superbly laid-out, taking up the greater part of six of the building's eight floors.

After you have finished your shopping you can sit and take rest in the restaurants here. The two of Tokyo's finest restaurants are situated in the premises. The Sabatini di Firenze is located on the 7th floor while the Maxim's de Paris is situated on the 3rd basement. You can also buy the goodies you where playing with upstairs in the AVIC electronic shop while the Sony Plaza is the supplier of all kinds of imported snacks and various gewgaws.

You can also get tickets for various kinds of concert, movie and sporting-event tickets in the lobby.

The visiting hours of this landmark of Ginza is 11:00- 19:00 except the restaurants.
