Beer Festival

With more than 60,000 beer lovers to give you company, the pull and popularity of this festival is beyond question and perhaps much more than the expectation of the festival founder Mr. Ryouji Oda. This festival started in 1998 and has been held every year since then, organized by - Japan Craft Beer Association - and - BeerTaster Non Profit Organization - .
Apart from the Tokyo Beer Festival, there are two immensely popular beer competition held in Japan- the - Japan Beer Cup - and the International Beer Competition. The overwhelming response received by both these competitions has raised them to a level, no less than a celebration.
The Japan Beer Cup
This competition was held for the first time in the year 1998 and ever since has gained more popularity, with more than 200 beers entering this competition hosted by the JBC. Here the beers are separated into about 80 beer styles, similar to the categorization at the - World Beer Cup - in USA and are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. There are 12 award categories like English light ale, English dark ale, German ale, German light lager, German dark lager, Wheat beer, American ale, American lager, Fruit/spice beer, Smoke/Sake yeast beer, Belgian/Special Beer and others.
Basic rules for the competition:
- Beers competing in the contest should be already available in the market or planned to hit the Japanese liquor market within 6 months.
- - Beer Taster - and Judges of WBC will judge competition.
- Beers can be entered in the competition by filling an entry form and paying an entry fee within the scheduled deadline.
- 24 bottles (for example 330cc bottle) of beers have to be sent to - Japan Craft Beer Association - 11-22-203, Horaku, Nishinomiya city 662-0072, Japan.
- Only those who have WBC or similar experience can be Beer Judges.
However, for those who cannot be in Tokyo, Japan for the Beer Festival in the month of June have no reason to be disheartened either, as there are a number of great places in Tokyo to grab a great pint of your favorite beer, like:
