Bunkyo Tsutsuji Matsuri

Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama -
Bunkyo Tsutsuji Matsuri is the famous Tokyo azalea festival at Nezu Shrine in Bunkyo-ku. Nezu shrine or Nedujinja Shrine, as it is sometimes referred, is the perfect venue for celebrating the azalea festival as the vast garden complex in the shrine has around 3,000 trees of some 50 different types of azalea planted over an area of 6.6 square kilometers. The serenity of the shrine grounds and the effervescence of the amazake (sweet sake) teahouse, plant market and stalls in the shrine grounds make it a lovely place to be in.

When at Nezu Shrine for Bunkyo Tsutsuji Matsuri in April, you can admire more than 3,000 azalea bushes (tsutsuji) in the shrine grounds in bloom including the rare breeds like Fuji-tsutsuji's flowers, which are tiny like a bean, Hanaguruma, which blooms like a windmill and Karafune known as black azalea because of the color of its flowers. Visitors can also participate in the open-air tea ceremony, and enjoy the balmy Japanese traditional Shinto music performances and various other events performed during the festival.
Being one of the central wards of Tokyo, Bunkyoku is home to many famous parks, shrines, Tokyo University and the sporting Mecca of Tokyo Dome.
