Edo Tokyo Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Museum was established in the year 1993. The main purpose of the Museum is to preserve the ancient heritage of Edo-Tokyo. In this museum one can know about the art, history, tradition, disaster, architecture of Tokyo from the year 1590 to 1964. The visuals of the Edo-Tokyo Museum present before us the real picture of Tokyo through the ages. This was the humble attempt of the government to present before the people, the ancient Tokyo and made them to think about the future Tokyo
The height of the Edo-Tokyo Museum is about 622m which is almost the height of the Edo Castle Tower.

The exhibition area of the Edo-Tokyo Museum is divided into different zones. They are:

Edo Zone: At the Edo Zone you can see the exact replica of the Nihonbashi Bridge. One can see the various display showing the culture, economic system and way of living of the Edo era.

Tokyo Zone: In Tokyo zone you will get to know from the Edo to Tokyo Era. The effects of the world war 2nd on Japan and the reconstruction of Japan during that period can be seen in the Museum.

Special exhibitions are held several times a year. The Edo-Tokyo Museum also has audio visual library, a library and other facilities which have made it one of the most famous Museums in Tokyo.

Getting There:

  -   You can visit the Edo-Tokyo Museum by train. To get there you have to take a JR Sobu Line and get down at Ryogoku. It is hardly 3 minutes walking distance from the station's West exit and it takes 7 minutes walk from the station's East exit.

  -   You can go to Edo-Tokyo Museum by subway also. You have to take the Oedo Line and get down at Ryogoku. It takes 1 minutes walk from the station's "a3& a4"exit.

  -   Edo-Tokyo Museum can also be visited by bus. The Museum authorities provides special parking zone for the tour buses and cars.

Timings of the Museum:
  -   The Edo-Tokyo Museum remains open from 9.30 to 5-3.30 pm. But on Saturday the Museum remains open till 7.30 p.m.
  -   The Museum remains close on Monday. However, if a national holiday falls on Monday, then the museum is kept open on that day.

The Edo-Tokyo museum is one of the best museums to know about the Edo Culture. It is the perfect place to gain some knowledge and at the same time have some enjoyment.
