The Paper Museum has a famous collection of about 40,000 historic items and about
10,000 books on paper. These items on paper help to conserve and understand the
history and important of paper in today's world. The exhibition at the Paper Museum exhibitions tells the people about the history of paper, gives information about the Washi, which is a traditional Japanese paper, recycled paper and also about different types of western style paper.
Besides organizing permanent exhibitions, the paper museum also conducts workshops and seminars on hand made paper-making.
The Paper Museum also has a Museum Shop. It is located on the second floor. The Museum Shop offers you a variety of paper related items for sale.
There are different types of galleries in Paper Museum, which provides us knowledge about paper. They are:
Exhibition gallery 2f: This gallery mainly focuses on the modernization of the paper industry. It provides us information about the printing and drawing paper, wood pulp, neutralized papers and acid papers, sanitary papers, different types of converted paper, communication paper and making paper from pulp.
Exhibition gallery 3f: This gallery provides information about paper. Here you can
know about characteristics of paper with the help of testers. This particular gallery also organizes computer quiz games on paper.
Exhibition gallery 4f: This gallery provides us information about the history of paper, history of making paper in Europe and also about Washi making
Timings:
The Paper Museum remains open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am till 5pm.the museum usually remains close on Monday.
Getting there:
The Paper Museum is close to the JR Oji Station. If you get out of the south exit of the station, it hardly takes 5 minutes walking distance from the station to reach the museum.
Fees:
The museum charges 300 yen for the adult and 150 yen for the children between the age group of 6 to 18 years. If you are visiting the museum in a group of 20, then you will get 20% discount on entrance fees.
