The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum was established in the year 1926 in Tokyo. The museum, on a regular basis, conducts exhibition on Japanese art organizations for more than 70 years. The museum allows the general public to access the art library and conducts workshops on art. In the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum you can glance at the oil paintings, calligraphy, pottery, sculpture made by the Japanese artists. In the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum there are six galleries. The museum authority gives on lease the other five galleries, except the Music Gallery, to the various art groups. In the Music Gallery only special exhibitions are organized. The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum has a huge collection of about 2,500 art works of Western and Japanese style.
The Museum nowadays holds two types of exhibitions for the art lovers. One is the exhibitions by the artists group of Japan in the Rental Galleries. The artists work includes beautiful oil paintings, sculptures, crafts, Japanese style traditional paintings. The Rental Gallery remains open from 9.00 am -5.00pm. It generally remains close on 3rd Monday. The other exhibition is organized in the Museum Gallery which is known as the Special Exhibition. This Special Exhibition is organized in collaboration with the TV and newspapers companies. The entrance to the Museum Gallery is free for the physically challenged people, their attendants and students. The Museum remains closed on Monday, except national holidays. Price for the ticket: Each gallery of the museum has separate admission fees. Moreover the fees also changes according to the exhibition. Entrance for the aged people above 65 is free. Getting there: Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is located in Ueno Park, Tokyo .To visit the museum, you can take the JR Yamanote line to JR Ueno station and come out of the Park Exit.
