Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography was inaugurated in the year 1990. It is one of the famous photograph galleries of Tokyo, Japan. Infact it was the first museum for photography in Tokyo. The main motto of this photography museum is to display the growing culture of photography and optical imagery in Japan. It is located in the Yebisu Garden Place in Southwest Tokyo. The museum has about 20,000 photos in its collection.
To cater to the needs of both children and adults, the museum organizes exhibitions of anime and video games.

The Images and Technology Gallery displays exhibition on cinematography and animation. Here, you can find various historical cameras and animation devices, which were used in earlier stage of film making. One can hire film editing suites and holography from this gallery.

On the third floor of the museum you can find the museum's permanent collection. The subject of the work exhibited there changes from time to time. Here you will definitely find the work of some eminent Japanese photographers like Ueno Hikoma.

On the second floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography is the Special Exhibition Gallery. It arranges exhibitions on traveling.

The museum has a Museum shop on the first floor. The shop displays various important books and stationary goods on video and photography. This museum shop is of immense help to the art lovers.

The museum also has a library. It provides information on exhibition.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Musuem of Photography has a huge collection of the most beautiful photographs all over the world.

Getting there:

You can take a JR Yamanote Line to JR Ebisu Station. If you come out from the east exit of the station and walk along the sky walker to the Ebisu Garden Place, then you can find the museum on the right of the Ebisu Garden Place, near the Yebisu building.
You can also take the Hibiya Subway Line to Ebisu Subway Station. Once you reach Ebisu Garden Place you can find the musuem on right of the Yebisu Garden Place.

Visiting hours:

The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography generally remains open from 10.00am to 6.00pm from Saturday to Wednesday. But on Thursday and Friday the office remains open till 8.00pm.

Entrance fees.

To view the permanent exhibition the adults have to pay 500 yen and the children from 6 to 18 years can view the exhibition for 250 yen. The entrance fee is free for the age group below 6 years and above 65 years.
You can visit the entire permanent collection of the museum for paying fees of about 300 yen.
