Marunouchi derives its name from the location of Imperial Palace's outer moat. It means "inside the circle". It is a commercial district of Tokyo and is situated in Chiyoda, between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace. As the country's three largest banks have their headquarters here, it is the hub of Japan's economy. Getting to Marunouchi is not difficult. The Tokyo Station and the adjacent Otemachi station lays an easy access to Marunouchi. Shinkansen lines, the JR Yamanote Line and various other urban, suburban and subway lines begin or transit Tokyo Station or nearby Otemachi subway station. Though this is mainly a business district, a number of shopping and dinning places has started attracting tourists over here. The major attractions are mainly found in the Marubiru and Marunouchi Oazo areas. There are a number of places which you can visit. The Marunouchi Building is the new landmark of this district. This landmark was opened in 2002 just in front of Tokyo station. There are shops and restaurants on the floors B1to 6. They are also located in the two top floors 35 and 36, while the floors in between consists of office and business area. The Marunouchi Oazo is a new shopping, dining and hotel complex located adjacent to Tokyo Station. The Maruzen bookstore is situated here. This bookstore has a large collection of foreign language books. The Marunouchi Hotel on the other hand is located in the top ten floors. But you're sure to get spell bound by the astounding architecture of Tokyo International Forum. It is the venue for different conventions, exhibitions, concerts and other events. You can also drop in these places when you are in Marunouchi.
