Odaiba, an artificial island located in Tokyo Bay in Japan, is a major business district of the metropolitan city. Today, with its numerous shops and entertainment centers, it has emerged as a major tourist destination of the country.

Odaiba, a man made island, is also referred to as 'Daiba', which means 'fort'. The island was constructed in 1853 towards the end of the Edo period in order to protect the city from attacks by European ships. The entire area was constructed in the form of 6 fortresses. The area underwent extensive developments after 1980, which converted it into a major business district of Tokyo. However, it was only in the latter part of the 1990's that this place became a major tourist spot and an entertainment zone of the city. A huge bridge, called the Rainbow Bridge, connects this island to the heart of Tokyo.

One can find a large number of theme parks, shopping malls, modern architectural buildings and museums in this place, also known as Tokyo Teleport Town. Tourists can pay a visit to the Museum of Maritime Science or the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. One can get to see exhibits relating to scientific and environmental issues over here. One can also take a look at the Yotei Maru ocean liner, displayed in the maritime museum or check out the robots in the science museum.

If you are looking for some fun and excitement, then you can surely go on the rides in the theme parks found over here. The Oedo Onsen Monogatari theme park is one of the biggest attractions of this place. The park has a hot spring, which attracts tourists from all across the world. Besides this, tourists can also go on the Ferris Wheel in Palette Town or take a walk in the beautiful parks that fill this district. Odaiba is also home to a number of modern architectural monuments and buildings. The Fuji TV Building, Telecom Center and the Tokyo Big Sight are some of the biggest examples of modern architecture. The Tokyo Big Sight serves as a venue for a large number of exhibitions and conventions.

Odaiba is also a major shopping district of Tokyo. There are a large number of shopping malls over here, which are visited by a large number of tourist all through the year. The Sun Walk is another major shopping mall found over here.

Getting to Odaiba in Tokyo is not at all difficult. One can take a boat ride from Hinode Pier to Tokyo Big Sight or walk down the Rainbow Bridge to this place. You can avail the Rinkai Line, an underground railway system that has a direct connection to Odaiba or take a ride on the Yurikamome, an elevated rubber tier train, which connects Shimbashi to Odaiba.

Odaiba district in Tokyo is one of the most magnificent tourist destinations of Japan. The district with fantastic buildings and shopping malls are worth paying a visit.
