Shibuya district originally developed as a major railway terminal for southwestern Tokyo. It was incorporated as a village in the year 1889 and became a special ward of the city on the 15th of March 1947. Over the years, extensive development activities carried out over here made this place a major entertainment and commercial center of Tokyo.
The biggest attraction of Shibuya is the Hachiko Statue. This is the statue of a dog located at the front of the Shibuya Station. Legend says that a dog name Hachiko used to wait for his master, everyday in front of the station, even after his master passed away. The Hachiko is a popular meeting place in this district. The Hachiko Exit is a major landmark of this entertainment district. It is heavily decorated with a large number of neon lights and giant video screens.
The Tokyo Shibuya district is a favorite destination amongst the younger generation. One can find a large number of shopping malls and departmental stores in this district. The malls and stores found over here either belong to Tokyu or Seibu. These huge shopping arcades are extensively decorated with bright lights and neon lights. Some of the most popular shopping malls that one can find over here include Loft, Parco, Shibuya 109, Tokyu Hands, Shibuya Mark City and others. One can find shops selling stationary, handicrafts, decorative articles, gift shops, home products and other shops in these malls. One can also find a large number of restaurants and cafes in these places.
Apart from these, the fashion conscious people can check out the numerous shops in some of the major streets of the district, which includes Center Gai, Koen Dori and Spain Slope. One can also find a number of cafes, restaurants, game centers and nightclubs over here.

Besides these, one can also take a look at the National Yoyogi Stadium and the Love Hotel Hill. This area is filled with a large number of love hotels. Visitors can also pay a visit to the cinemas, restaurants, museums, and theatres in Bunkamura, a cultural village of Tokyo. The NHK Studiopark is one of the biggest attractions of the district. The Shibuya District ahs a large number of residential complexes like the Daikanyama, Ebisu, Harajuku, Hiroo, Omotesando, and Sendagaya. Getting to Shibuya is not at all difficult. The Shibuya Station is, in fact, one of the busiest stations of Japan. One can easily get here by the JR Yamanote Line, JR Saikyo Line or by the Hanzomon Subway.
