Shiodome was originally a marshy tideland. During the Edo period land reclamation activities were carried out over here and the place was given its present name, which means "place where the tides stop". In 1872 the Shimbashi Station, the Tokyo terminal of Japan's first railway line, was built over here. Later on this station was renamed as the Shiodome Station. After 1980, development activities were carried out over here, which converted this place into its present state.

The buildings are home to a large number of offices and the headquarters some of the biggest companies of the country like Nippon and Matsushita Electronics. Because of these reasons, the Shiodome is regularly visited by a large number of people, especially the youngsters.

One of the biggest attractions of this place is the Nippon Television Tower, known as the Nittele Tower. It is the headquarters of Nippon Television. One can find a large number of shops over here from where one can buy goods related to Nippon Television programs and personalities. Another architectural marvel found over here is the Caretta Shiodome. This is a 51 story high skyscraper, which houses the office of Dentsu, the leading advertising company of Japan. One can find a large number of shops bars and restaurants over here. You can try out the delicacies served while enjoying a panoramic view of the city from the Sky Restaurants, located on the topmost floor. You can also go for shopping in the Caretta Shopping Center.

A major attraction of the mega complex is the replica of the Shimbashi Station. Located close to the Shiodome City Center skyscraper, it has a small railway museum where one can get to know about the history of the railway station. The presence of numerous shops and restaurants makes this urban complex a popular place to hang out, especially amongst the younger generation.

Getting to Shiodome Shiosite is not at all difficult. One can take a train to the Shimbashi Station or avail of the Asakusa Subway or the Oedo Line Subway. The Shiodome Shiosite is still under construction, as more and more number of high rises are continuously being added to this 11-block mega complex.
