Hiroshima Castle

The Hiroshima castle is located in the city of Hiroshima, which is more famous on the world map because of the atom bomb that was dropped there and the deadly aftermath that followed.

Most people come into the city to visit the A-Bomb Dome and the A-bomb Museum and the peace memorial park. The destruction caused by the Atom Bomb has meant that most of the traditional buildings in the city have razed to the ground except the Shukkei en Garden that was originally laid in the seventeenth century and the Hiroshima castle that was re-built in the late fifties using Ferro concrete construction.

The castle was originally built in the sixteenth century by the Mori clan only to be completely destroyed by the atom bomb. The castle has however been rebuilt later using Ferro concrete and is a nice sight to watch.

The interior of the castle houses some exhibits related to the history of the city. The castle also houses some beautiful swords on the upstairs which you can checkout to bring out the warrior in you.

The view from the top of the castle is breathtaking and the castle also accommodates a monument dedicated to the Chinese workers who lost their lives in the atom bomb attack but could not be accommodated in the Memorial park for geo political reasons.

How to get there

The city of Hiroshima is well connected by air with other important cities of Japan and the airport is about an hour away from the center of the city. The Hiroshima castle on the other hand is a few minutes walk form the street car station.

Places to see

It would be foolish to come to Hiroshima and not visit the memorials, museums and the peace park that have been dedicated to the destruction caused by the atom bomb. Another must see of the place is the Itsukushima shrine on Miyajima island that presents one of the most scenic views of the country.
