Gasshozukuri Minkaen Museum in Japan

The Gasshozukuri Minkaen is the Open Air Museum, situated across the river from the small village center. It was opened in 1990 and is the preserver of the gorgeous and picturesque farm houses from the hands of destruction.

- According to the Gasshozukuri style, the roofs of the houses are designed in such a way that it represents a folded hand. This unique design assists in clearing the snow from the roofs during the periods of heavy snowfall in the region.
- Nearly 250 years old, the farmhouses have been transformed into small museums or minshuku. They also acts as restaurants and along with dining, one can also enjoy an overnight stay in these minshuku.
- The farm houses used for lodging are little comfort zones. Equipped with all the modern necessities, the lodgings provided are comfortable. The warm fireplace is surrounded by snuggly tatami mats and futons on the floor.
- The best point to have a classic view of the farmhouses is the Shiroyama Viewpoint, located North above the Old village Center. The walking trail to the viewpoint is adventurous as well as exciting. It is also accessed by a bus ride and is closed down during the winter.
How to Reach Gasshozukuri Minkaen Museum in Japan
By Bus: The central point of the Shirakawa region, Ogimachi has there bus services between Shirakawa-go and Takayama, Kanazawa and Nagoya. The convenient dropping point is the Shirakawa-go bus stand located outside the open air museum. The bus services are operated by Nohi bus and Gifu bus services.
