A frequent question that arises in the minds of the tourist intending to visit Japan is when to travel to Japan? Visiting Japan could be fun and enjoyable during every season of the year. Visiting Japan during the New Year is very popular among tourists all over the world. Infact, this is the time when maximum number of international as well as domestic tourists tour different places in Japan. Most business as well as companies shut down during this period and thus giving ample scope to people to enjoy a holiday. The New Year thus sees a surge in tourist traffic in Japan. The rest of January is also a great time for visiting Japan. The weather is usually sunny and dry and the tourist hotspots are not generally very crowded. Airfares also tend to be low during this time. The Northern area of Japan and along the Sea of Japan coast offer good conditions for winter sports since there is plenty of snowfall. February is also a great time for visiting Japan like January. The conditions are similar to the month of January with cheap airfares and less crowded hotspots. Winter sports are also a very good option here. The first signs of spring can be felt with the early flowering flowers and trees such as palm trees. Towards the end of March the cherry blossom season starts in certain areas of Japan while conditions are still favorable for winter sports in Northern Japan. This time of the year also witnesses a surge in domestic traffic since most schools close for spring holidays. Besides November, April is the second best time to visit Japan. Cherry blossoms are in full bloom in most parts of the country and the weather is pleasantly mild. Domestic travel activity is at its maximum due to the spring holidays and the cherry blossom season. The Golden Week is one of Japan's busiest seasons and takes place during end April and beginning of May. The remainder of May is a good time of for visiting Japan. Vegetation is lush and the weather is mild. However, it is not as humid as in the summer months. Airfares also tend to be low and the hotspots are unusually less crowded after the Golden Week. The rainy season visits most parts of Japan except Hokkaido in June. It does not tend to rain everyday in June but the weather may remain overcast. The rainy season is however over in the first half of July. A number of local festivals are celebrated in July. Schools are closed till the end of July and as a result there is an increase in tourist traffic. The Obon week in Japan is celebrated in August and is one of Japan's three busiest holiday seasons. Room rates are usually very high during this time and often reach its peak. The month of September witnesses typhoons which are at its peak. This is probably a good time for senior citizens or people just intending to take a break since most hotels remain deserted and there are fewer crowds. The weather though can sometimes be hot and humid. October is a good month to tour Japan since the weather is very pleasant and comfortable for traveling. Trees turn colours and in the northern regions or higher elevations. November and December are good for traveling to Japan. The weather is dry and mild and the coloured autumn leaves are spectacular. Airfares and domestic travel tend to be low during the first half of December but is on the higher side during the latter half.
