Yokohama Bus Service

Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama -
The bus service of Yokohama is the most popular means of transport for both the citizens as well as tourists. The municipal bus system is on the rise for everyone to use this facility comfortably. Low-floor buses provide easy accessibility with barrier-free floors at the entrance, about 30 centimeters above street level. There is a sloping platform at the central entrance that makes them stand apart from the conventional buses with lifts to handle wheelchairs.

The municipal bus system of Yokohama operates the non-step CNG buses that are fuelled by compressed natural gas since 1999. These are low-emission vehicles. To promote the development of a system that provides transportation to the nearest railway station in 15 minutes, the Yokohama Revival Plan introduced small-size buses as part of the Yokohama Bus Service in areas with narrow streets that inhibit the passage of conventional buses.

Among the locals, the authorities are recruiting bus volunteers to help elderly, challenged people who are in need when they use the bus system. This was first implemented at the Sakuragicho Station Bus Terminal in October 2003. However, punctual operation is one of the most serious concerns of the Yokohama Bus Service. The bus stops are constantly being renovated with improved information displays, for the convenience of passengers.
