Yokohama Landmark Tower Yokohama
Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama -
The Yokohama Landmark Tower in Yokohama has several important features that make the building a marvel not just in its design but also an achievement in architecture. Designed by 'Hugh Stubbins and Associates', the Yokohama Landmark Tower in Yokohama has inbuilt ability to absorb earthquake shock and sway. Completed in the year 1993, the Yokohama Landmark Tower in Yokohama rests on two tuned mass dampers on the 71st floor. Improvised with 70 floors, the lower 48 floors are dedicated to retail and office space, while the rest is taken up by the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel. The other unique aspect of the building is that it has an elevator that ranks as the second fastest in the world; traveling at 750 Meters in 1 minute. It reaches the 60th floor in one minute and so the average mounts up to 1 floor/second. The Yokohama Landmark Tower in Yokohama, however, will be outdone in height in 2010 with the completion of the Nishi Shinjuku project.
