Food theme parks are a popular concept in Japan, with new ones popping up all over the country every now and then. A food theme park specializes in a particular type of food or dish which gives visitors the opportunity to taste the different versions of the dish, all at the same place. Unlike conventional theme parks, a food theme park is located indoors. Many are ornately adorned to resemble a specific historical epoch or fantasy theme. A key reason for the enduring success of food theme parks is that Japan is the land of foodies.

Known as the Daisekai, the Yokohama Daska Food Theme Park, in the heart of Chinatown, is all about the Shanghai of the 1920s. Here, you can go for the various Chinese cuisines from more than a dozen stands, some of which are operated by some of China's most reputed restaurants. Centered at the Motomachi-Chukagai Station, the Daska Food Theme Park was the residence of Chinese traders when the Yokohama harbor was opened to foreigners in 1859.

The primary attractions are the three floors of food stands that vend various Chinese delicacies. The enlightening ramen tour will also take you to the narrow streets of Chinatown to savor the sidewalk cuisine or barter for trinkets at the countless open air markets.
