Yokohama Carnival is an ensemble of a variety of programs like fire works and "hamakoi dance". This celebration takes place in the month of August. There are exaggerated parades with fireworks and miniature shrines. This portable Shinto holy place is known to have the Japanese divine spirit. This shrine is dubbed as "mikoshi" which represents miniscule hearth. The amazing part regarding the shrine is the craving of "phoenix" in the wall of the structure.

The masturi is carried on the shoulders by the participants of the procession. This mobile shrine is supposed to be transported from Hachiman to Todai-ji holy periphery. The dance of hamakoi is based on Yosa Koi Odori of the Kochi prefecture. The tourists can accompany their family along the road side to hear the ringing of bird clappers and tender bells. More than thousand people participate in this particular parade. Yokohama Carnival is accompanied with the local festivities of the Akita Prefecture. Kantou festivity is a part and parcel of the Yokohama Carnival.
