Yokohama Archives of History, Yokohama is located in the central part of the city, near Yamashita Park. The most archives and valuable materials dates back to 1853, when Commodore Matthew Perry put his foot on the Japanese soil seeking opening of Japan to the western world.
Prior to being established as the Yokohama Archives of History, Yokohama, in the year 1981, the building was the British Consulate Building till the year 1972. If you want to know about the media system of the period then there are many of the periodical newspapers stored in the archives. From the Edo period to the Taisho-Showa era, all the historical materials are preserved and exhibited.
There are some special shows held in the Yokohama Archives of History, Yokohama, in the special exhibition room. This is organized four times in a year. So, you can catch up with the exhibitions if you are here at that time.
Yokohama Archives of History, Yokohama remains open all throughout the year except on Mondays and the year ends from 9.30am to 5pm.
