Yokohama was only a small fishing village before being discovered by the west. Commodore Perry came to the island in the middle of 1800s and made Japan accept its existence as a part of the world not as an isolated country. Yokohama has been the largest international trade port in Japan since then.

Yokohama History Museum, Yokohama is a seven floored storehouse of the 20,000 years of history. There is a library, if you are interested in doing any sort of research on the history of Yokohama. There is also a reading room where you can enjoy reading those books taken from the library without anyone disturbing you. For practical demonstrations there is the auditorium and a seminar room where conferences are organized. You will also find a gallery where exhibitions regarding special themes are held in the museum.
You have to pay only JPY400 for admission inside Yokohama History Museum, Yokohama. The museum opens at 9am and closes at 4.30pm and remains open from Tuesday to Sunday.
