Yamate, Yokohama is the name of two neighborhoods in Naka-ku. One of the neighborhoods consists of the historic area of Yamate Bluff, two International Schools, Foreigner's Cemetery, well-preserved residences, and the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The other neighborhood area is located near the Yamate Station between Ishikawacho and Negishi Stations on the JR Keihin Tohoku/Negishi Line.

Yamate is famous for the best educational institutions in the Yokohama region. Numerous international schools and an international athletic clubs have resulted into the growth of popularity of Yamate amongst the foreign citizens. A dwelling of affluent people, Yamate's population mainly consists of either wealthy Japanese citizens or emigrants.

Yamate with its developed infrastructure had always been a foreigner's favorite. O-ura Tenshudo Church, the oldest Tenshudo in Japan is located in Yamate. Due to its age old history, the church has been designated as a National Treasure. Among the tourists' attractions of Yamate, the Glover House is very popular. It has been designated as an Important Cultural Property. The architecture of the Glover House has a strong resemblance with the Western-style oldest buildings in Japan. You can also visit the historical museum of Kanko-Shiryokan. It has a huge collection of the remnants of the part.
