Our Lady of Arabia Church in Kuwait

Our Lady of Arabia Church in Kuwait was built by the Carmelites and the most distinctive feature about it is that it has the honor of being the first Catholic Church in Kuwait. This Catholic Church in Kuwait is also known as the "mother church" and is dedicated to the great Mother of God Mary who is the holiest. It has played a fundamental part in the life of the Catholics in Arabia since the very beginning and also has a very important role in the Church history. Initially "Our Lady of Arabia" was a just picture brought from Mount Carmel and framed at the beginning of May 1948, to be used in the Chapel which was a room in C.Q. 2B . After this mini "Chapel" on the Ridge was blessed on the 8th of December 1948, this picture was kept near the altar. This picture of Mother Mary remained in the Chapel till May 1949 till it was replaced by a small Statue of the Legion of Mary.

Fr. Stella of the church however wanted a special statue to be enthroned in the honor of Mother Mary in Our Lady of Arabia Church at Kuwait. The Statue of Mary was received in Kuwait amidst jubilant rejoicing and formally enthroned on 6th of January, 1950 at her Shrine in Ahmadi. The first parishioners still recall nostalgically the sunny Friday afternoon when the statue was transported with much pomp and show from the Shuwaikh Port to reside in the 'mini' Chapel.
