Maki: Taking Japanese food to a New Dimension
Until 5 years ago, I would have been proud to say, that I eat to live. Alas,
Maki opened. Mohamad (also known as Oliver) Zeitoun, for years had been exploiting
himself into the Japanese culture and, more importantly, the food. Beginning
by making maki’s and other Japanese foods by himself for a couple of friends,
he had dreamt wildly of owning his own restaurant. And with the help of his
brother Amer, and Chef Shanta, his dream would be fulfilled. They first began
with a small Maki just off the Gulf road that, with its cozy aura, is always
filled with chatter and lounge music. The second Maki, found in Marina Waves,
is all about the view; for wherever you are seated, both the city and the sea
can be seen from the corners of your eyes, since the food is what your eyes
will truly indulge in. The newest Maki, found in the Avenues, gives an astounding
outlook at night or when seated at the terrace, and even without the view, has
its own characteristics making it also exclusive.
Yet the most vital thing that makes Maki illuminate the way it does, is its
food. No Japanese restaurant can compare to Maki, for since Maki is a fusion,
you can find ranges and varieties like no other. Whether you are a true lover

onion. The Angus beef served literally tastes like its melting on your mouth,
and the lobster drowning in its creamy sauce is exquisite. These are just a
