Launceston's enjoys a weather which can be distinctly marked into four
distinct seasons. As a result of its proximity to the hills, the weather of the
city is considerably colder when compared to the other parts of Tasmania.
Launceston's climate comprises of spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Spring in the city is a pleasant phase, though some areas in the highlands remain
snow clad. As the temperature lingers at a comfortable level, spring is a season
of festivity here. The vegetation too reflects the spirit as colorful flowerbeds
dot the city to celebrate the Blooming Tasmania Festival. A few gusts of north
westerly winds sweep the city during these months of October and November.
As the temperature mounts, Launceston's weather passes into the summer which
too is enjoyed with an equal frolic. The season experiences frequent thunder
storms which brings down the temperature for a while. The parts lying near the
Tamar cost enjoy a milder climate though the temperature reads higher in the
inner parts of Launceston. The Cataract Gorge is a popular summer destination
as the pools offer the perfect refuge in the scorching weather. Summer in the
Southern Hemisphere city lasts from January to February.
Autumn in Launceston is another pleasant season. Though the city often
experiences occasional spells of rain, autumn here is one of the most temperate
seasons. The weather in this season begins to show the traces of winter and
the entire landscape dons into vibrant colors of the fall. The days from March
to May are however, still sunny enough to be relished.
Launceston is considerably cold in the winter months. The highlands
receive regular snowfalls, though snow is rare in the main city. Though the
coastal area protects the city from cold winter winds, the mornings in Launceston
are often shrouded in fog. Winter in Launceston stays from June to August.
