Macau Tam Kong Festival

Tam Kong Festival is celebrated on 8th day of the Fourth Moon in the month of May. This colorful festival celebrates the birthday of the God Tam Kong. Tom Kang, a child god is presumed to be the regulator of the weather and heals the sick. Thus the festival garners much devotion from the fishermen and other people of Macau.

This vibrant Tam Kong festival party includes a lively procession, lion and dragon dances, firework displays, food and drink and cultural performances. Traditional Chinese opera performance is at the center stage of this gaiety carnival. Traditional offerings and burning firecrackers mark the commemoration at the Coloane Village's Tam Kong Temple.

Tam Kong festival is observed on the eighth day of the fourth moon which coincide with the Feast of Bathing of the Lord Buddha and the Feast of the Drunken Dragon. The festive day is a public holiday throughout Macau. During this time Macau hosts its annual Macau Open Golf Tournament giving the tourists more option to enjoy and make full use of their vacation.
