The image of Xian Xing Hai composing the song "Cantata to Yellow River" is portrayed on the bronze figure. Xian Xing Hai was a native of Macau born on 16 June 1905. He got his education in Singapore at tender age and went to college at Guangzhou working simultaneously. He studied music in Paris and returned to China in 1935. At the age of 40, he died in Moscow.

This inexhaustible musician composed countless startling agitato pieces. Among his works Yellow River Cantata is the most famous. His daring and vigorous Yellow River Cantata is a prolific expression of the unyielding and obstinate spirit of the Chinese to preserve the homeland. Till his death, Xian Xing Hai composed more than 200 songs expressing the patriotic spirit and motivating the people to fight the Japanese invasion in 1937.
