Kun Iam Temple in Macau, China is the oldest among the organized temples in Macau. Constructed in the 1400's, the existing Kun Iam temple complex dates back to a renovation undertaken in 1627. Being the most extraordinary of three old temples in Macau, it is fairly rich in architecturally Buddhist.

Kun Iam Temple in Macau, China is committed to the Goddess of Mercy. A prime attraction during your Macau sightseeing tour, it is one of the leading and wealthiest of temples in Macau. The temple has a colossal entrance. The temple roofs are bunched with porcelain statues. Divided by the open courtyards, the luxuriantly decorated halls are dedicated to the worth Buddha, the Buddha of Longevity and Kun Iam. The later is dressed in finest silk with a fringed cap. The top is changed every year. Kun Iam or goddess of Mercy is attended by 36 Buddhas on both side of the altar. Neighboring rooms house funeral chapels and tubes honoring Kun Iam in paintings and calligraphy.

Behind the Kun Iam Temple in Macau are positioned terraced gardens. A stone table in one of these gardens is place where the first Sino-American treaty (July 3, 1844) was signed. Near four antique banyan trees with branches tangled are known as the Lovers Tree symbolizes of marital fidelity. Some of the gardens hold fountains shaped miniature Chinese landscapes, orchards of bamboo and minute shrines dedicated to departed priests. The carnival of Kun Iam is celebrated on the 19th day of the second, sixth, ninth and 11th moons.

Kun Iam Temple in Macau houses some beautiful statues. The fusion of the east and the west, the statue of the goddess is attired in embellished silk and wears a circlet. Some argue that the style of the temple is influenced by the Western models. A lotus pond in side the temple complex is supposed to increase likelihood that one will live up to 100 years.
