Tam Kung Temple

Tam Kung Temple in Macau, China is dedicated to the Taoist god of sailors, Tam Kung. Located at the heart of the Coloane Island of Macau, it is the most delicately designed and fabulously ornate among the temples in Macau. A must on your itinerary during Macau sightseeing tour, the temple is a jewel of the Macau tourism.

Tam Kung Temple in Macau, China houses many beautiful specimen of Macanese sculpture. Apart from the statue of the god Tam Kung, the shrine has a four foot long model of a dragon boat. The boat is entirely made from whale bone. The artistic caliber with which, the boat is decorated with marine bones in itself is a wonder in the world.

The vessel looks more than complete with wooden sailors wearing red robes and yellow hats. This symbolizes the regard of the sailors and fishermen to God Tam Kung on the beginning of their voyage to the South China Sea. There are even legends and folklores celebrating the grace of the god towards the devotees.

Tam Kung Temple in Macau like many other Buddhist temples in Macau houses many nice murals. This sanctum sanctuary of the temple is an excellent toll roof ornamented with porcelain figures. A big-eyed and orange striped mural of a tiger with cub set against a background of rocks and twisted pines looks profoundly dramatic. The Tam Kung Temple with its dazzling gilded carvings over the entrance and a moon gate facing the sea looks incredible attracting people on their Macau sightseeing tour.
