Macau in Mandarin is located in Southeast China. The territory was administered by Portugal till the year 1999. Like Hong Kong, Macau is also a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Macau is a booming country and it is wooing commerce and tourism in a big way.

Currency
Currency used in Macau is Pataca and it is identified by a dollar sign or with a code MOP. The value of a Pataca is almost equal to the value of the Hong Kong dollar. In fact, both these currencies are interchangeable. Even the Chinese RMB is accepted here but the exchange rate is usually determined by the receiver.

Visa
Macau offers automatic entry to visitors from most countries for a period of about 30 to 90 days. Macau is actually a Special Administrative Region (SAR) and has a separate border and immigration control to China.

Visitors arriving from the mainland need to leave China first, before going through the process of Macau immigration. This process is undertaken at a place called Zhuhai that lies between China and Macau. This place remains busy with lot of people so you may have to stand in long queues. Just make sure to stand in the correct line for foreigners, otherwise you will waste a lot of time.
