Macau: Things to Know
If you are planning a visit to Macau of late, a few things mentioned in this article might help you with a comfortable journey.
Currency
Currency used in Macau is Pataca and it is identified by a dollar sign or with
a code MOP. The value of a Pataca is almost equal to the value of the Hong Kong
dollar. In fact, both these currencies are interchangeable. Even the Chinese
RMB is accepted here but the exchange rate is usually determined by the receiver.
Visa
Macau offers automatic entry to visitors from most countries for a period of
about 30 to 90 days. Macau is actually a Special Administrative Region (SAR)
and has a separate border and immigration control to China.
Visitors arriving from the mainland need to leave China first, before going through the process of Macau immigration. This process is undertaken at a place called Zhuhai that lies between China and Macau. This place remains busy with lot of people so you may have to stand in long queues. Just make sure to stand in the correct line for foreigners, otherwise you will waste a lot of time.
