The World Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship, Kuala Lumpur is organized every year by a government body called Tourism Malaysia, since 1994. The basic idea of conducting this championship is to promote Malaysia to the world as a major golfing destination in Southeast Asia.
As this tournament is meant for the amateur golfers. Around 900 amateur golfers from all across the world come to participate in this grand event. The tournament is held in different golf courses of the city like the Glenmarie Golf Course, the Sabah Golf and Country Club, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, and other best golf courses of Kuala Lumpur.
The entire tournament consists of six rounds, each of which are held in different golf courses of the country. The tournament usually starts in march and continues till September. Participants from numerous countries like China, Japan, Indonesia, United States of America, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, South Africa and Brunei come to participate in this grand event. A participant can reach the grand finale only after qualifying the other preliminary rounds. The members of the team participating in the tournaments are provided with breakfast, accommodation facilities, transportation facility and return air tickets. Each major league or event lasts for six days.
The World Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship, Kuala Lumpur offers a platform to the amateur golfers to show their talent and skill and thus get an international recognition. Participants come over here much before the real tournament to practice the game and hone up their skills. A large number of golf tours are also organized during this time to allow the tourists to come and watch this grand international event.
