The Biomedical Museum of Kuala Lumpur, established in 1983, aims to be the central repository of the Institute for Medical Research and the Ministry of Health. It is situated at the Jalan Pahang. The Biomedical Museum has two exhibition galleries. The historical section has posters displaying the history of the Institute for Medical Research with its achievements and research write-ups. The photographs of past researchers and their research activities are put on display. In this gallery, there is a collection of antique and laboratory equipment like microscopes and scales or balances etc. There are also preserved specimens of human organs showing various pathologies which have been perfectly labeled and displayed in a special section. Items like a centrifuge and autoclaves show various habitats of mosquitoes and the kind of virus that they transmit. The Museum Collection Room has a collection of dry specimens of different mammals like rodents, squirrels, flying squirrels and flying foxes. The preserved wet specimens include reptiles, amphibians, and mammals like snakes, frogs and bats. Some of the specimens are displayed on the corridors between the galleries. Researchers from local as well as international centers use the place as a source of reference for zoonotic diseases, their transmission and remedies. The Museum remains closed on Sundays.
