The Kuala Lumpur Tourist Information Center or Complex as it is known is set in the famous historical district of Jalan Raja, in Ampang near which, in August 1957, the Union Jack was lowered for the first time in history to herald the independence of Malaysia. The Center is located amidst the various attractions of the city such as the Selangor Club, Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National History Museum. Tourists can collect the information brochures which span details regarding the city itself as well as other parts of the country. The friendly staff at the reception counter is there to help in case you are unsure of the local customs, lodging or other travel-related issues.
This is indeed a good place to begin any visit to Kuala Lumpur for it is the one-stop Information Center which gives visitors an overview of everything the city and the nation in general has on its travel platter. The audiovisual equipment includes provides background information regarding each of the states in Malaysia, which is all of Asia condensed into one. You can book a tour, arrange for a trishaw ride, and change your money and book air or bus tickets to the diverse destinations of the country. International calls, facsimile and telex services are offered too. The restaurant on the right wing of the building gives you your first taste of Malaysian cuisine. Cultural performances are held regularly, along with a video show on the history of the country.
The Complex remains open to visitors between 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening everyday of the week between Monday and Saturday. Housed in an exquisite mansion, the MATIC is a must-stop for everyone looking for data on everything from parks to mementoes.
