One of the few surviving architectural footprints left by the British colonizers is the Queen Victoria Fountain. It is a structure that hailed from the high days of British rule. Like the Clock Tower in Penang, as a Straits Settlements colony this fountain was a monument that had been constructed way back in the early 20th century to commemorate the diamond jubilee of the tenure of Queen Victoria. Completed in the year 1901, Her Majesty's fountain is functioning till date thus providing an irresistible backdrop to the tourist photography in the Dutch Square.

The Queen Victoria Fountain was erected to pay a tribute to the Empire and its ruling monarch, Queen Victoria. There were, however, two such fountains that were constructed - one at Kuala Lumpur, and the other at Melaka within the Stadhuy's Compound. The fountain at Kuala Lumpur is located opposite the Sultan Abdul Samad Building within the compound of Dataran Merdeka.
