Batu Caves

Malaysia - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Penang
One of the holiest of the Hindu temples in Malaysia and a popular tourist attraction are the Batu Caves which are also popular for being the southernmost limestone outcrop in the Northern Hemisphere. However, the labyrinth that comprises the Caves also supports a variety of exotic lifestyle. The 272 stairs lead to the cave temple. The main cave holds a shrine of the Lord Subramaniam who is a venerated Hindu deity. At the foot of the Batu is a cave gallery featuring clay figurines and wall paintings depicting scenes and figures from Hindu mythology.

As a famous tourist destination, especially during the Thaipusam festival, the latter attracts devotees, whom spectators from all over the country arrive to watch. The devotees who are in a trance carry the kavadi, a metal frame that is attached to the body. There are also milk kavadis. For the transport facilities, you can take the taxi from Petronas Towers to the Batu Caves and the cost too is remarkably low. However, the return journey from the Caves is expensive by a few rupees, and it is advisable to use taxis with meters. The outskirts of Kuala Lumpur makes you discover the concealed beauties of nature. See the way batik is done by hand as also the belief that faith does move mountains.
