However you can find a bus station opposite the City Bayview Hotel in the main town of Kuah, situated on the south-eastern end of Pulau Langkawi. This town is the take-off point to the neighboring Malaysian islands. The term Kuah in Malay language means ‘gravy’. According to a Malay legend, two giants overturned an enormous pot of curry right at the place where the town stands currently, hence the name Kuah.
Bus Services and taxis are also available from the Kuah jetty to the centre of the town. In these buses the passengers have to pay for each way.
There is another public bus service in Pantai Cenang that is situated at the south-western edge of Langkawi and lies about 18 kilometers from the town of Kuah. Pantai Cenang offers a wonderful beach ambience, modern amenities and great chalets, resorts and restaurants. The Pantai Cenang dotted with swaying coconut trees, casuarinas and Swiss Villas is a favorite haunt of the tourists.The one-way trip from Kuah to Pantai Cenang by bus costs RM1.70.
The local bus service is quite economical but the only problem lies with its availability and infrequent schedules.
