Underwater World Langkawi

With its beautiful coastlines, sandy beaches, lush vegetation Langkawi with its latest inclusion of Underwater World is the there to attract the tourists from all over the world. The Underwater World was opened in March, 1996. Currently it is a home to 500 species of marine lives. All of the marines are stationed in about 100 tanks.

The Underwater world has been voted as Malaysia's best man- made Tourist attraction that has fetched for it the prestigious 1996/97 Tourism Malaysia Award.

Settings
Located in the Pantai Cenang, the Underwater World spreads over an area of 6.2 acres. Acknowledged as one of the largest marine and fresh- water park, it has a total of 5000 varieties of fishes for display. The massive hexagonal tank and walk- through tunnel contains almost 6 million liters of sea-water.

The park houses sharks, stingrays, turtles and many other diversified sea creatures. The dazzling corals are also there to take your breath away. The settings also include a cave with a waterfall.

Penguins in the Underwater World
Underwater world which specialized in its excellent collection of marine life has a new attraction for tourists. The special department of penguins was opened by the former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mahamad. The unique idea came to his mind after he had been on a visit to Antarctica. Though there are presently 20 rock hoppers and 12 black- footed penguins the number is expected to rise in the near future. The Rockhoppers who are mostly of two or three years old are kept in a tank that contains rocks and waters. Special care is taken to see that the temperature does not exceed 8 degrees Celsius. The black footed penguins are placed in a tank where the temperature is maintained to and around 20 degrees.

Such baby penguins were brought so that they could acclimatize themselves to the conditions of Langkawi. The total project required an investment of RM30 million.

Other displays
The new Ring also houses anaconda from the anaconda. There is 3D cinema which entertains a total capacity 200 visitors.

Attractions
After seeing all the displays you can enjoy shopping as this is a duty free zone. Have a great time enjoying the tasty delicacies at the restaurant that is here. if oy manage to move some 100 meters to the north you can have a gala time at the Rice Museum where you can find a number of mini golf courses.

Admission
You require paying RM28 per head as entry fee. The park is open from 10 an to 6 pm on all days of the week. The Underwater world with its diverse range of creatures is a major attraction for tourists who visit Langkawi.
