Sukma Sailing Tournament

Malaysia - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Penang
Held in the month of May The Sukma Sailing Tournament is where Malaysia gets its best sailor. The word Sukma is an acronym of Sukan Malaysia which means The Malaysian Games. This is not an yearly event of Langkawi. Rather the island had the privilege of hosting the 11th Malaysian Games or SUKMA 2006 for sailing.

Before participating in the core event, a trial took place at the Pre Sukma Competition. This event decided the lucky finalists who became eligible for participating in the main competition. Both the hits and the final occurred at Langkawi National Sailboat Centre. The competition was arranged with assistance from the State Sports Council and the Kedah Sailboat Association.

The most spectacular scene of the event is when the sailors play a do or die game in order to grab the title of the best. The island has a rich sailing legacy and for the last few years it has developed to be a vital sailing destination. Yachts and Marinas of different colours rushing across the sea creates a nail biting situation not only for the contestants but also the people standing at the bank.

Such enthralling circumstances not only trigger adventure but also let you feel what sailing actually means to the islanders.
