Tuba Island Langkawi

Pulau Langkawi is the main island of the Langkawi archipelago. Tuba Island is another stunning and picturesque tourist destination in the region. Pulau Tuba as it is known to the natives is the only other inhabited island besides Palau Langkawi. The wind fanned white surf, the panoramic expanse of emerald waters and the thick green tropical rainforests lend Tuba Island a spell binding quality. The Tuba Island proffers a unique opportunity to its guests. A number of home stay program developed by the Fisheries Development Authority Of Malaysia allows the guests to take shelter in one of the thirty households registered with them. This augments the income of these fisher folks and allows the international tourist to study the lifestyle of natives at close quarters. The men of these households work as fishermen but also run farms and maintain cattle and poultry during the spare time. Every homestead has a tiny but dainty orchard garden which bears vegetables and fruits for the family. The Tuba Island has a rich growth of medicinal herbs and shrubs. These grow within the forested regions of the island and the natives garner these. Besides, wax and honey are regularly collected and sold by the fisher folk. The women on the island are adept at making mats and other handicraft items.
