The average temperature in a day ranges from 89.6 degree Fahrenheit during the day to 71.6 degree Fahrenheit during the night. But then, it is colder in the hilly regions of the country. Malaysia boasts of two distinct weather patterns, warm and humid. In the month of September the climate is hot and humid with average day temperature at 35 degree Celsius and night temperature at 25 degree Celsius. Rainfall is negligible during this period of the year.
Rainfall in Malaysia generally occurs between the month of October or November and the end of February in the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia and in the region of Sabah and Sarawak. In the West coast of Malaysia rains occur between April to May and October and November. Average annual rainfall in Malaysia is generally about 85.8 inches.
The humidity in Malaysia is very high. The mean monthly relative humidity falls within 70to 90%, varying from place to place and from month to month. The monthly relative humidity varies from a minimum of about 3% to a maximum of about 15% fro any specific area in Malaysia. The mean relative humidity varies from a low 84% in February to a high of only 88% in November in Peninsular Malaysia. The maximum variation can be found in the northwest area of the Peninsula.
Malaysia is close to the equator and is a maritime country. Malaysia has abundant sunshine and solar radiation. It is however extremely rare to have a clear day even in periods of severe drought. Malaysia on an average receives about 6 hours of sunshine everyday. However, it is extremely rare to have a full day with completely clear sky even in periods of severe drought. The cloud cover cuts off a substantial amount of sunshine and thus solar radiation. Seasonal and spatial variations in the amount of sunshine received cannot be ruled out. Areas such as Alor Setar and Kota Bharu in Malaysia receive about 7 hours of sunshine per day whereas Kuching receives only 5 hours on an average. In the month of January Kuching receives about 3.7 hours a day whereas Alor Setar receives about 8.7 hours of sunshine in the same month.
