Petaling Jaya Malaysia
Malaysia - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Penang
Petaling Jaya was initially a satellite town which came into existence ever since the British administration realized the growing problems of squatting and the need for accommodation of workers in a bustling and congested Kuala Lumpur. The migration from Kuala Lumpur to the Petaling area started much before the town was officially named in 1953. The literal meaning of jaya means success and the new town was prophetically named.
A major attraction at Petaling Jaya is the Light Rail Transit (LRT) via the Kelana Jaya Line. The LRT covers major residential and commercial sections of the town. Petaling Jaya is quite spread out and it is better if you have your own car since feeder bus services to the LRT stations can become infrequent. Some of the popular attractions here include Kota Darul Ehsan Arch, Wat Chetawan Temple, MBPJ Tower, Gasing Hill, Taman Jaya, Kelana Jaya Lake Park and the LDP Cable-Stayed Bridge.
Petaling Jaya has a number of night markets (pasar malam) that can be found on the main thoroughfares in the suburbs around Petaling Jaya. These markets are the best way to know the true culture of Malaysia. You can find fresh foods and quick snacks apart from contraband merchandise ranging from clothing, electronics, mobile phone accessories, pirated DVDs and Audio CDs etc. You can get a very good bargain if you buy goods in bulk or speak Malay or Cantonese. If you are looking for air conditioned malls, Petaling Jaya will not disappoint you since there are a few mega malls here such as Amcorp Mall, Digital Mall, Giant Kelana Jaya, Jaya Shopping Center, Millennium Square, The Curve, Thrifty Mall and Tropicana City Mall.
There are a number of accommodation options available at Petaling Jaya. You could choose to stay in the comfort of a lush and plush hotel or choose bed and breakfasts or cheap hotels. There are a number of moderate hotels as well where you could put up. If you choose to stay in any of the major hotels such as the Hilton, Sunway Resort, Eastin, Crystal Crown, Royale Bintang, and Armada you could avail shuttle bus services that take guests into KL City and Petaling Jaya State as well as a number of local landmarks such as Sunway Lagoon, One Utama, and The Curve Shopping Center.
