The continent of Asia is a melting pot of different cultures, wonders and attractions. The country of Malaysia is situated in the heart of Asia. The population in this country is very mixed comprising of Malays, Chinese and Indians. Malaysia is one of the leading tourist destinations and is very popular for its towering skyscrapers, natural wonders, beautiful beaches and some of the great diving spots in the world. The Perhentian Island comprises of Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Small Perhentian) and Perhentian Besar (Big Perhentian). Both the islands are unspoiled and lie in clear waters. The islands have for centuries acted as a stop over destination for fishermen from mainland Kelantan and Terengganu for a rest or to shelter during a major storm. Some of the things you could do is explore the jungle on your own. You will come across exotic animals such as ants that are up to 3 centimeters in length, bats that are as small as colibri birds and scary big warans hiding in the bushes, between the rocks on the beaches and even under water. There are facilities for scuba diving. There are about 30 spots around the two islands and boat dives are allowed only. You could go snorkeling as well and watch sea turtles along the west side bays.
There are a number of beaches in Pulau Perhentian Besar. The Teluk Pauh beach lies to the north in front of the Perhentian Island Resort. This is the main and also the beach with the most number of resorts on the west coast of the island. The Teluk Pauh Beach is a beautiful half moon bay with white powdery sand and water as clear as in a swimming pool. You will come across coral around the points on either side. You can snorkel here with some turtles black tip reef sharks and hundreds of reef fish.
Pulau Perhentian Besar has plenty of accommodation options. Perhentian Island Resort offers some of the best facilities in the island. It is located on Besar's nicest beach and equipped with the only swimming pool in town. There are a number of air- conditioned as well as non air conditioned chalets with some great facilities.
The villagers in Pulau Perhentian Besar are quite friendly. The state is primarily muslim and quite strict.
