Pulau Perhentian Kecil Malaysia
Malaysia - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Penang
Pulau Perhentian Kecil is located the north-eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The islands are located about 21km off the shores of the remote town of Kuala Besut. The Perhentian Island comprises of Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Small Perhentian) and Perhentian Besar (Big Perhentian). Both the islands are unspoiled and lie in clear waters. The islands have for centuries acted as a stop over destination for fishermen from mainland Kelantan and Terengganu for a rest or to shelter during a major storm.
On the edge of the Pulau Redang's Marine Park, Perhentian's coral fringed waters provide excellent underwater scenery. A group of small rocky islets to the northwest of Pulau Perhentian Kecil is a location not to be missed for divers. There are harp and black corals and large hard corals can also be found. The waters at Perhentian are crystal clear and within the turquoise waters of the islands there exists a variety of marine life. You might also come across dolphins and whales in July and August, which is generally the peak of the dry season. There is an abundance of corals in Perhentian, especially the colorful soft corals and gorgonian sea fans.
You will come across a number of trails around the island, but the easiest way to go from beach to beach or island to island is by boat or boat taxi. Most resort/chalet owners can arrange for a boat on request. You must ask them before you a buy a ticket since boats are provided from Tok bali or Kuala Besut. . You should take boat from Kuala Besut Jetty to Perhentian Island.
The nearest airport to Perhentian Island is Kota Bharu airport which is about an hour’s journey to Kuala Besut jetty. The flight is available either from Kuala Lumpur International airport or from Senai airport in Johor Bharu. If the flight from Kota Bharu fully booked, you could take a flight to Kuala Terengganu airport.
