Wang Kelian State Park, Malaysia
Malaysia - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Penang
The limestone forests in the Mata Ayer Forest Reserve inside the Wang Kelian State Park in Malaysia are rich in fauna including birds, mammals and reptiles. The state park poses a challenging jungle trek from the camping area that leads to the Wang Burma cave system.
The limestone based forests are also rich in bio diversity. You will come across rare species of ginger, ferns, and balsams that can rarely be found elsewhere but at the Wang Kelian State Park in Malaysia. The forest is also the only place where Stumped-Tail Macaque is found.
All visitors wanting to enter the park must register themselves at the Park Visitor Center. There is an exhibition which is housed inside the park and also audio visual facilities. There are guides available at the center and visitors must need to book them before if they wish to. There are accommodation facilities at the park based at Wang Burma which is about 1.2 km from the visitor centre.
You could enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside which also includes Timah Tasoh Lake and the unique twin peaks of Bukit Chabang from Wang Kelian.
There is also a popular Sunday market housed at Wang Kelian where visitors
can cross the Thai-Malaysian border without the use of passports and provided
they remain within the market area.
